2023-24 GVH Season Recap

The GVH program enjoyed another championship season in 2023-24 as they defeated Dexter
Southfield in the finals of the Pattsy Odden large school tournament. Seniors Alexsa Caron, Meg
Britt, Annabelle Najarian, and Cailey Larouco led the way as they demonstrated leadership skills
that brought the team together. The Knights began their season with a 3-0-1 record but
stumbled a bit through the mid-season portion of the schedule. Heading into a weekend match-
up with Stanstead College, the team experienced a tough lopsided loss on night one, but the
turning point of the season came in game 2. In game 2, the team held Stanstead to a 1-1 tie
throughout much of the game, and with under 2 minutes remaining in regulation, Stanstead
marked the GWG. Despite the loss, the team gained confidence and momentum that
catapulted them into making a fabulous run throughout the remainder of the season. By the
conclusion of the regular season, the team had qualified for another post season berth and
hosted Thayer academy in round 1. The playoff week was an exciting one, as the team beat
Thayer 3-2 and followed it up with an upset of the #1 seed in the tournament, the Choate
School. Choate scored the first goal of the game, but the Knights tied it late in the game and
then finished the win with an OT winner by Emi Biotti. The championship game culminated an
epic season as the Knights used a quick strike goal by Savana Littlewood, and then clamped
down on defense to earn a 1-0 shutout victory. Senior goalie, Alexsa Caron, earned tournament
MVP honors as she capped off her BB&N career with 2 championships and 2 playoff MVP
trophies. BB&N will miss the leadership of its four outgoing seniors (Alexsa Caron, Annabelle
Najarian, Cailey Larouco, and Meg Britt), but the junior class will be ready to step up and fill the
void. The Knights capped off an epic season as they were able to send off their program
founder, Kathy Newell, with a championship trophy on the ice of her alma mater.

2022-23 GVH Season Recap

It was another exciting year for the Knights on the ice as they posted a 14-14-0 record and
found themselves securing another trip to the Patsy Odden large school post season
tournament for a second consecutive year. Since the NEPSAC realignment, BB&N has qualified
for a New England post season birth every season for the past three years. This feat is a tribute
to the players and senior leadership that continually brings these teams together each winter.
This year, Melissa Bulman was the lone senior on the squad, and helped captain this team with
Jr.’s Meg Britt and Alexsa Caron. The three did an amazing job on and off the ice helping this
team grow and mature into a playoff team. BB&N experienced many milestones this season as
they celebrated their 40 th year anniversary as a program. Coach Kathy Newell, the founder of
the BB&N program, has been behind the bench in some capacity for all 40 years, and was
celebrated on the final day of the regular season. The Knights first round playoff victory against
Austin Prep was also highlighted by the fact that it gave Coach Bourget his 150 th career win as
head coach. There were many highlights throughout the season, and the team looks forward to
an exciting 2023-24 season as they will return 23 members from this year’s squad.

2021-22 GVH Season Recap

It was the first time in two years that the BB&N girls’ varsity ice hockey team laced up the skates for an official contest in early December at home as the faced off against Dexter Southfield in a hard-fought match. The game was exciting, fast, and physical and would be an indicator of how the 2021-22 season would play out. The Knights fell 1-0 in overtime, but the effort and passion were evident. The theme of hard work and resiliency would be the mantra for this year’s club and after beginning the season with a 2-7-2 record, the team found itself securing its first Large School New England Championship in school history with a 4-1 victory over Deerfield Academy. “This senior class set the tone from day 1,” said head coach, Ed Bourget. “The six seniors led by example and demonstrated kindness towards all of their teammates, while maintaining an elite skill set on the ice powered by high intensity focus throughout the season.” The senior class of Gali Levy, Sophia Kennedy, Ashley Hallice, Sydney Bernstein, Hillary Galle, and Anna McGrath will always be remembered for securing the first championship in school history. Levy will move on to play at Ohio State and Kennedy will travel up to Maine and represent Colby College on the ice for the next four years. The season culminated with a New England Championship and all who have laced them up for this program can rest east knowing they’re finally champs.
