BB&N Involvement: Darius '24

Why did you choose BB&N? And why do you love giving tours?

I came to BB&N in sixth grade and I chose this school for two main reasons: firstly, the academics are really good; from my classes at the lower and middle schools to the variety of options at the upper school it’s been awesome to explore what I’m interested in! Secondly, I have to say the people are a large part of making the school what it is. All the students are welcoming and the faculty are always there to help with academic issues, as well as just to talk. I love giving tours because I get to meet new people from all around our communities and get to show them our school!

What activities are you involved in?

I try to take advantage of the unique and diverse selection of activities at BB&N. Some of my major roles are serving on the student diversity steering committee, being an editor for our school newspaper, The Vanguard, participating in the robotics team, being part of our junior grade council as vice president, and blogging for our On & Off Campus blog. Also, this year, I have had the opportunity to travel to the United Kingdom as a delegate from BB&N to the Round Square International Conference and I look forward to our French exchange in the spring.

What BB&N tradition do you love the most?

My favorite BB&N tradition is the knighting ceremony! The ceremony is when we officially “knight” all the freshmen and new sophomores/juniors into the high school. Each student is assigned a color team that competes throughout the year against the other teams through our Knight Games for points! It’s a great tradition because it builds community across the grades and it’s always fun to cheer for your team.

What do Honor, Scholarship, and Kindness mean to you?

I think honor, scholarship, and kindness form the foundation for how we act with each other and our environments. To me, our school motto means treating everyone with respect, helping out when we can, and trying our best! Especially in a school setting, I think it’s super important for everyone to feel welcome for them to be able to do their best work.

What is your favorite place on campus?

I have two places that I really like on campus; the library and April’s Garden (the courtyard). Both spaces are great spaces to socialize or just relax after a long day. Even though it may be a little cold in the winter, the fall and spring make the courtyard a fun place to have lunch or spend a free block. The library is also really great to get some work done (especially in the quiet room!) and the librarians are a great resource for help with research projects, or just book recommendations!

What are you most looking forward to this school year?

I’m most looking forward to being able to pursue my interests with more classes that I choose! With my choice of English class, I’m really excited to be able to dive into learning about literature through a new lens! Also, I’m excited about my Global Online Academy class, Medical Problem Solving 1!
