BB&N Welcomes the Class of 2024
It was a momentous occasion on the first day of school when BB&N welcomed its 50th class of seniors. The Class of 2024, boasting 132 students, gathered in the Nicholas Athletic Center to kick off the school year with their teachers and families.
Beginning the year reminiscing about their time at BB&N, students entered the reception and were greeted with a slideshow of memories from their freshman Bivouac trip while mingling and taking pictures with their friends in front of a balloon arch.
Head of School Dr. Jennifer Price addressed the seniors, noting that they are the 50th graduating class at BB&N following the merger of Buckingham with Browne & Nichols on January 1, 1974. With that honor comes the responsibility of being the oldest students on campus and setting an example for the other 13 grades in the school, a sentiment Upper School Director Jessica Keimowitz echoed in her message to students before introducing the faculty speaker.
This year’s faculty speaker was Michael Chapman, Dean of Teaching and Learning and science teacher. Chapman offered the students three “Chappy Cairns” to guide them through their final year at BB&N, including embracing the journey of change, encouraging dialogue instead of debate, and limiting comparisons to their peers.
Finally, class president Adam Murray ’24 welcomed his classmates to their final year. Murray applauded the difficult work the class conquered in the past like the freshman history paper, sophomore debates, and junior profile, but commented that they aren’t done yet and will still have to complete their common applications, tests, Senior Spring Project, and more. Whether they’ve been at BB&N for 1 year, 14 years, or 5 years like Adam, the next 8 months will be a time to reflect and make even more memories before the final curtain call of their high school careers.
Grade 12 Co-Deans Cécile Roucher-Greenberg and Leah Cataldo closed out the evening, wishing the students a tremendous senior year, and reminding them to take pictures so they’ll have these memories when they graduate in June.
