Petropoulos Show Celebrates Senior Artists

By BB&N April 24, 2025

Honored for their work in the visual arts, thirteen seniors gave artist talks at a recent reception for The Petropoulos Show in the Upper School Lower Gallery. Nominated by their teachers in their individual disciplines, these students have demonstrated commitment to the arts and personal growth. The nominating teachers also consider the artists’ originality, craftsmanship, and development of their expertise over time.

For this annual mini-retrospective, students choose to display pieces that represent what they’ve learned, as well as some of their favorites. For the artist statements exhibited alongside their artwork, drawing and painting teacher and gallery director Miyoung Lee asked students to consider their goals, focus, and inspirations.

“I also want students to reflect on what they love about the art studio program they committed to during their BB&N years,” she says.

“Ceramics has been a meditative space for me—a way to unwind from the stress of high school and express creativity through form,” Gil Cavalieros ’25 says in his artist’s statement. “I enjoy the relaxation of starting with a simple shape and letting the wheel guide me. Each piece presents a unique challenge, and I’m drawn to the balance between function and decoration.”

The Petropoulos Show was established in 1984 in memory of John Petropoulos, who taught ceramics from 1967 to 1982.

This year’s honorees, all Class of ’25: in Architecture: Saho Repucci; Ceramics: Susanna Barouch, Gil Cavalieros, Merit Hodgson; Film: Quentin Higgins; Painting: Victoria Nassikas, Ellora Roy; Photography: Keenan Billings, Cortez Heyworth, Max Kerrigan; Woodworking + 3D Design: Sophia Chester, Eliza Cohen, Wyatt Welu.
